Yield: This makes enough pie crust for one two-crust (9-inch) pie or two 9-inch shells.

The dough should be carefully rolled, very lightly from the center to the edges to a size somewhat larger than the pie pan it is to fill.

    * 2 cups flour

    * 3/4 cup shortening

Some pointers about making pies:

To avoid a tough piecrust, don’t over mix or overwork the dough.

To keep dough from sticking to your countertop, roll out the crust between two sheets of lightly floured wax paper.

Fruit pies are the easiest to make. Use only fresh or frozen fruit, not canned.

To avoid a soggy bottom crust in your fruit pies, get the filling into the crust and oven quickly.

Bake a pie only on the center rack of the oven.

Make the top crust slightly ...

November 11 is not only a day to honor all veterans, but also the first day of Indian Summer and the feast day of St. Martin.

Veterans Day marks the World War I cease-fire in 1918. The U.S. Congress changed the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day in 1954 to honor and celebrate all veterans who have served during peace or wartime.

Remember to check those candies (by eating them first...if you don't get sick they're okay to feed the kiddo's) and watch out for those cars. For the first time in quite a few years, my girls won't be going out. Well...to be fair, my oldest is 18 and my youngest is 14...So it''ll be a quiet year! Makes this mom a little sad! Maybe I should dress up and go out anyway???? LOL

Autumn Chores
